The Warpath Campaign – Empire: Total War DLC
The Warpath Campaign DLC (Downloadable Content) for Empire: Total War acts as an expansion pack. Buying and installing the DLC will add a new single player campaign, a new North America campaign map, new factions, new units, new agents, new technologies and new objectives.
The Warpath Campaign unlocks 5 new American Indian playable factions. The Huron Confederacy, Iroquis Confederacy, Pueblo, Plains Nations and the Cherokee Nations. Each of these factions starts off with its own territories in Northern America and comes with its own Elite Unit or Units. Selecting the different factions will tell you its back story, its allies and what you should aim to do in the campaign. Whether its building up your trade income by trading furs with the Europeans, conquering your Indian neighbours or driving the Spanish from your land, it will no doubt be a challenging fight.
The Indian factions all come with their own technology tree. Allowing you to research shamanism, spirit warriors or fishing technology. Researching these will allow the construction of new buildings and the recruitment of new units. You will also be able to recruit new agents. A shaman, that can enter hostile territory and convert the populace to Animism and the Scout that can sabotage enemy armies and buildings, as well as assassinate enemy agents.
All of this takes place on a new, detailed North American Map, allowing conquest all the way down to the northern tip of South America. The map is split up into various territories with towns and cities scattered throughout.
The game play in this DLC is what makes it so great. Pitting yourself as an Indian tribe against the well trained and established British, French, Spanish and American armies makes this both fun and challenging. Especially on some of the harder difficulty settings, you will need to pull out every trick and tactic you can think of. The uniqueness of the factions however makes it a fun challenge. Setting ambushes, harassing with archers and ranged cavalry, skirmishing with Medicine men and swarming with warriors is just part of the fun you’ll experience. The lack of firepower on the side of the Indians, compared to the line infantry of the Europeans, makes this a challenge you won’t be able to breeze through. Once you’ve conquered the European settlements and cities, you’ll have to tear down their buildings and build your own. Preventing unrest in these captured settlements is easier said than done. You have to be able to quell both the settlers and natives unrest, a careful balancing act it will take a while to master.
